OVERVIEW

AVSE Global and Academy of Politics Region II (campus in Ho Chi Minh City) are pleased to announce the 6th Vietnam Symposium on Leadership and Public Policy (VSLP-2024), which will take place on October 29 - 30, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The symposium will focus on "Shaping Regional Development: International Insights and Practices from Urban and Public Management."

The VSLP aims to promote collaborative research initiatives and experiences between Vietnamese experts and their foreign colleagues in both Vietnamese and international contexts. It provides a unique platform for academics, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to exchange knowledge and expertise in public management, leadership, and policy innovation. Participants will find the event an excellent opportunity to present new research, exchange research ideas, and discuss current trends and developments.

This event benefits from collaborating with the Business School, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (Vietnam campus), and the Department of Public and International Affairs, City University of Hong Kong.

TOPICS

Contributions on topics related to leadership, public policy, and their interfaces are highly encouraged. The symposium program will include paper presentations, roundtable discussions and case study demonstrations, along with contributions from prominent researchers, academics and professionals, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and practitioners from leading universities, institutions and governmental agencies.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Ron BoschmaProfessor in Regional Economics, Department of Human Geography and Planning, Utrecht University, The Netherlands

Ron Boschma is a Full Professor in Regional Economics at the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning at Utrecht University. He also holds a Chair in Innovation Studies at the UiS Business School, Stavanger Centre for Innovation Research, at Stavanger University. 

Professor Boschma's expertise extends beyond academia, as he has undertaken research assignments for esteemed organizations such as the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, the European Commission, the OECD, and the Scientific Council for National Government (WRR). His success in securing external funding for new projects, including PhD and post-doc initiatives, underscores the impact and relevance of his research. Additionally, Professor Boschma plays key editorial roles, serving as the Deputy Chief Editor of Regional Studies, a member of the Editorial Board of Economic Geography, and Editor of the working papers in Evolutionary Economic Geography.

Richard M. Walker, Chan Hon Pun Professor of Behavioural and Policy Sciences and Chair Professor of Public Management, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR

Professor Richard M. Walker is a distinguished figure in the realm of public management and policy, serving as the Director of the Laboratory for Public Management and Policy and Co-Director of the Centre for Public Affairs and Law. His research focuses on employing experimental methods, integration studies, and computational social science to address pressing issues at the intersection of management and policy. Professor Walker's scholarly contributions, including membership in the editorial boards of prestigious journals and grants from esteemed organizations, underscore his significant impact in academia.

Beyond research, Professor Walker's influence extends globally through consultancy work for international bodies such as APEC, OECD, and UNDP, as well as various governments worldwide. His research has practical implications, evident through citations in governmental documents and legislation. Moreover, Professor Walker has held leadership roles, including President of the Public Management Research Association and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. His academic journey, marked by professorships and fellowships across esteemed institutions worldwide, solidifies his status as a leading authority in behavioral and policy sciences.

 

GUEST SPEAKER

Quoc-Anh Do, Associate Professor of Economics, Monash University, Australia

Dr. Quoc-Anh Do is Associate Professor of Economics at Monash University (since 2023). He was recently Visiting Associate Professor at the Ford Center for Global Citizenship, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, and before that he was Associate Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics, Sciences Po (Institute of Political Studies) in Paris, France until August 2021. He is known to many friends and colleagues as “Q.A.”, a nickname originating from the initials of his given name. He obtained his PhD in 2008 from Harvard University’s Department of Economics, and has previously worked at the School of Economics, Singapore Management University.

His research interests span over several applied microeconomic topics, especially in political economics, economics of social networks, development economics, economic history, organizational economics, and corporate governance.

Academy of Politics Region II

Established in September 1949 under the name of the Southern Party School, the Academy of Politics Region II has experienced more than 70 years of construction and development. The Academy has made a great contribution to the personnel training and theoretical research of the Party, served the revolution for national liberation, construction of socialism, and protection of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The Academy's construction and development have always been associated with the revolutionary causes of the Party and the people.

There is a special session for participant to receive the sharing from experts who were Editor-in-Chief or a member of the editor boards of several journals, such as: Public Administration, Policy and Society, Public Administration Review, Public Management Review, and Asia and The Pacific Policy Studies.This session can be instrumental in demystifying the publication process and enhancing the quality of submissions.  

ASSOCIATED JOURNAL

In consultation with the conference organizers and the Editor-in-Chief of the below journals, authors of Politická ekonomie - Political economy - one of the best conference papers will be invited to submit their papers to a regular issue of the Journal.
